Show Don’t Tell Writing

Ahhrrgg! Can’t I just go!?I screamed slamming the door, nearly knocking it off the hinges.  Screaming in a violent way, I could feel a fire starting deep down inside me.  Breathing deeply, anger swept through me almost making an earthquake. Knocking everything over that was in my way, I shout “ I want to go I MUST go!Breaking mums glass mug and shaking the dining table chairs, I storm away.  My face was now bright red and my fists were clenched, shaking, I ran into my purple bedroom and shut the door tightly, running, I jumped under the blankets! I feel so mad! And I guess the house looks like a mess, but I really want, I want be the best viking at the party!  I feel anger taking over me, rushing round, dragging me away!

Today Science

Flame And Fire

In room 16 today we did some can crushing, well kinda.  We did 6 experiments, 1 for each group, and I got chosen to do experiment 2, with Jasmine, Jill, Pia and Kayla.  In our experiment we had to boil water in a 355ml can, but put the can into cold water with no ice.

What we needed a meths burner, a tripod, some gorse, a metal can, a measuring cup filled with water, a pipet and some cold water, to do this experiment.

When we first started Jill noticed that the gorse on top of the tripod was all burnt apart from the middle of the gorse, were the meths burner was burning, was not burnt.  We got a silver can and we think that is why when we put the can on the fire, we saw instant condensation around the bottom of the outside of the can, it was easier to see with a light coloured can.  After 5 minutes the bottom of the can was already burnt and almost halve of the can was burning.

After 10 minute the can was steaming and very hot, ( do remember do not touch the tripod or your skin will stick to the tripod and not come off.  In our experiment we took the can off the tripod and dunked it into the cold water and the can instantly crushed from the air acting like a giant vacuum inside the silver can.  When we got the can out it was cold and cracks in it plus a very squashed inside.

From all 6 experiments only 4 worked and two failed, proving that you need moisture inside or outside of the can to get a reaction.

This is Pia, Jill and Kayla, putting water into the can, the first time we did this experiment all together.

Rimutaka Gym

Standing in front of the wooden bar, I waited for my turn impatiently.  This was my favourite apparatus by far, i’ve always enjoyed the bar.  I love every other apparatus but the bar always gives me adrenaline.

I was nervous and excited, as I stepped up to the chalky bar, slowly breathing, 1, 2 and 3, up on to the bar.  First I present, then I circle up, put my legs out and without touching the bar with legs go from left to right.  Next I did a quick but powerful backwards hip circle and slowly into a slow and steady forward hip circle and to end I wiped my legs back into a backward hip circle swung out and off the bar, straight into a present.

I strode back to my place in the long line and nervously waited for my score . . . . . .  GOLD!  I was SO happy, I got four golds and one red, which is pretty good!
