Extinction

EXTINCT!
BY Caitlin
I believe that the extinction of Sea Minks, Caribbean Monk Seal and Javan tiger was a huge squander, and we should take way more care when comes to animals. We should not kill such awesome animals, that don’t have a  reason to die.  Do want us to be the last race, do you want to kill the last of the very things that keep us alive?

Minks are soft gentle creatures, and because us humans have no care in the killing of animals, there are only two types left in the world, the American Mink’s and the European Minks.  Sea minks were killed because of us, as every other one of these poor animals, we did invent such things as fake fur! Sea Minks died for their nice fluffy jumpers, they were destroyed for their large plump coats, sadly leaving the sea, for a life of hairless bodies in heaven.  Neovison macrodon was the scientific name for the deceased minks, they were also part of the american Mustelidae family of minks, which now home to only the American Minks.

Caribbean Monk Seal, West Indian seal or sea wolf, was a species of seal, native to the Caribbean and is now believed to be extinct. The Caribbean monk seal’s main predators were sharks and humans.  Also known as Neomonachus tropicalis, the last confirmed sighting, was in 1952.  Hunting of the seals for oil, and overfishing of their food sources, are the established reasons for the seal’s extinction.   In 2008 the Caribbean Monk Seal was officially declared extinct in the united states of america. The last of the seals are critically endangered. An estimated 600 Mediterranean monk seals and 1,100 Hawaiian monk seals are alive in the wild.  The extinct seals were thought to have originally inhabited the beaches, cays and reefs of the Caribbean, but they were brutally murdered,  for the seals were a curiosity and a big source of food to the early explorers in the region.

The Javan tiger was one of the only species that inhabited the Indonesian island of Java until the mid-1970s. It was one of the  three subspecies limited to islands.  The Indonesian Javan tiger mainly died due to deforestation, loss of it’s prey and poaching, which lead to the unnecessary death of the Javan tiger. Until the mid-1960s, the Javan tigers survived in three protected areas, that had been established during the 1920–1930s.  In 1938, natural forest covered 23 % of the island of Java.  By 1975, only 8 per cent of the forest remained.  In this time, the human population had increased to over 85 million people.  Which meant the last of the Javan tigers went extinct.

So in conclusion, the extinction of animals is horrible, a waste of life, and we should not do it, all these animals have died and will die because of us.  Although it’s too late for these beautiful animals, we can still help save other rare animals by giving care and being respectful to what came before us.
